Run by one person, on purpose.
IA Bookkeeps is me, Ibrahim Ahmed, working from Leeds. You are not being routed to an offshore team or handed to a junior after the sales call — the person who quotes the work is the person who does it.
Where the experience comes from
My working week is spent in group and European financial reporting for a large multi-site veterinary group — consolidations, intercompany matching, month-end close, and the reconciliations that hold all of it together across a lot of entities.
That environment teaches a specific discipline. When the same reconciliation runs every month across dozens of entities, you stop solving it by hand and start building something that solves it. You also learn very quickly what an unexplained difference costs when it is found three months late instead of on the day.
I am an ACCA student with 9 of the 13 exams passed, currently studying Strategic Business Reporting.
What I am good at
- Reconciliations — the unglamorous core of all of this, and the thing most often skipped
- Month-end close — accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, the schedules that make a period defensible
- Intercompany and multi-entity — matching, elimination, and finding which side actually posted it wrong
- Excel and Power Query — turning a manual monthly ritual into something that refreshes
- Python — where the volume or repeatability genuinely outgrows a spreadsheet
What I am not
I am not a regulated firm and do not present as one. I work to trial balance: bookkeeping, reconciliation, VAT return preparation, management information and Excel automation. Final accounts, submissions and anything requiring a regulated opinion sit with your practice, and I am happy to work alongside them.
Why "clean books plus the automation"
Because cleaning books without fixing what dirtied them is a service you get to sell twice, and I find that irritating rather than clever.
Almost every messy set of records I see has a mechanical cause. A spreadsheet rebuilt by hand each month that drops rows on paste. A coding rule that only exists in one person's memory. An export nobody has checked since the software updated its column order. Fix the books and the cause is still sitting there, waiting to do it again.
So the last thing on every job is a note saying what caused it. Sometimes that leads to a piece of automation work. Often it is just a change to how something gets filed, which costs you nothing and I do not get paid for.
Where I work
Based in Leeds, working with practices and businesses across West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire — Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, Harrogate, York and the surrounding area — and remotely with clients across the UK.
Nearly all of this work happens over shared files and email. Being local matters for a first meeting and for the practices who prefer one; it is not a requirement for the work itself.
How to reach me
Email is best, and it comes to me directly rather than to a shared inbox.
Or use the contact form — it reaches me immediately and I answer within one working day.
Send me something real
A messy month, a report your team rebuilds, or a client file you would rather not do yourself.
